10 years of the Center for Postgraduate Studies

The Center for Postgraduate Studies (ZWW) at the Helmut Schmidt University/University of the German Armed Forces Hamburg (HSU/UniBw H) celebrated its 10th anniversary on September 26, 2023. Since its founding in 2013, the ZWW has built a wide repertoire of continuing education programs, distinguished by a broad range of national and international study programs and other educational offerings.

Prof. Dr. Klaus Beckmann, President of HSU/UniBw H, opened the anniversary celebration with a welcome address to the guests. He emphasized the valuable work of the ZWW and highlighted the importance of scientific continuing education for the personal and professional development of students.

Ministerial Director Elisabeth Totter, Deputy Head of Personnel at the Federal Ministry of Defense, acknowledged the crucial role of the ZWW in fostering leadership skills and professional qualification for Bundeswehr personnel. She emphasized how vital continuous education is for the adaptability and performance of the armed forces.

Prof. Dr. Hans Koller, Chairman of the ZWW Advisory Board, stressed the strategic significance of the Center for Scientific Continuing Education and the transfer of knowledge. He thanked all involved for their dedicated work and contribution to the success of the ZWW.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Center for Postgraduate Studies at HSU/UniBw H, Prof. Dr. Ada Pellert, Rector of the FernUniversität in Hagen, delivered an inspiring keynote address. She emphasized the importance of lifelong learning and the role of continuing education institutions in a rapidly changing world. Prof. Dr. Pellert praised the innovative spirit of the ZWW, which contributes to the continuous improvement and adaptation of educational offerings. Her words encouraged attendees to embrace the opportunities of continuing education and face the challenges of the future.

Prof. Dr. Tobias Scheytt, Head of the ZWW, provided a comprehensive review of the history of the Center. He highlighted key milestones from the past ten years and reflected on the development of the ZWW from its beginnings to its current state. Prof. Dr. Scheytt emphasized how the ZWW has always been aligned with the evolving needs of learners and society. With the motto „Sparkle Your Spirit,“ he looked to the future, outlining the visions and goals of the ZWW. He stressed the importance of innovation and flexibility to continue playing a leading role in scientific continuing education and encouraged the audience to maintain their passion for lifelong learning and fully embrace the opportunities offered by the ZWW.

The musical accompaniment for the anniversary celebration was provided by the Swinging Gents. The Hamburg ensemble, known for their virtuosic performances and charming retro style, captivated the audience and rounded off the program in style.
After the ceremony, the ZWW and its guests enjoyed the sunny weather and excellent food to close the day.
