Springtime – Time for the Graduation Ceremony for 19 Graduates from Postgraduate Master's Programs at Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg

On April 16, 2026, seven out of a total of 19 graduates from the advanced Master’s programs of the Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg (HSU/UniBw H) were honored with their degree certificates in a solemn ceremony.

These postgraduate Master’s programs are primarily aimed at specialist and managerial staff from federal ministries, federal authorities, as well as national and international armed forces. They offer participants the opportunity to acquire sound management and leadership competencies to assume demanding leadership tasks in highly specialized professional contexts. Admission requirements typically include a first professional university degree, at least two years of professional experience , including one year in a leadership position, and, depending on the program, additional requirements such as high proficiency in English.

The organization of the study programs is managed by the Center for Postgraduate Studies (ZWW), led by Prof. Dr. Tobias Scheytt, who also moderated the festive event. The Vice President for International Affairs of the HSU/UniBw H, Prof. Dr. Christina Schaefer, welcomed the graduates and congratulated them on their academic success. She also acknowledged the dedicated support provided by instructors, cooperation partners, and the administrative staff, who significantly contributed to the success of the study programs.

The keynote address was delivered by BrigGen (Ret.) MMag. Dr. habil. Wolfgang Peischel, PhD, on the topic of “What can education and further training contribute to leadership?”. Further greetings were conveyed by Rear Admiral Ralf Kuchler, Commander of the German Federal Armed Forces Command and Control Center, and by Prof. Dr. Hans Koller, Program Director of the Civil-Military Interaction (MCMI) Master’s program at the HSU/UniBw H.

Currently, a total of 374 students are enrolled, with the Military Leadership and International Security (MFIS) program accounting for the largest share with 206 participants. Among the total student population, there are currently 92 international participants, which underscores the international orientation of the programs.
